Conservatives Without Conscience.

John Dean and Authoritarian Cultism - a Review
By: Glenn Greenwald.

In his new best selling book, Conservatives Without Conscience John Dean contends, and amply documents, that the "conservative" movement has become, at its core, an authoritarian movement composed of those with a psychological and emotional need to follow a strong authority figure which provides them a sense of moral clarity and a feeling of individual power, the absence of which creates fear and insecurity in the individuals who crave it. By definition, its followers’ devotion to authority and the movement’s own power is supreme, thereby overriding the consciences of its individual members and removing any intellectual and moral limits on what will be justified in defense of their movement.

Animals in Heaven?

Animals in Heaven?
This is a typical example of the con that is religion. Jack Van Impe is selling, among many other things, a video that explains how you will see your pets again in heaven.
We are told repeatedly that because animals don’t have “souls” they are not judged and so the heaven and hell thing is not an issue, but for $24.95 you can be reassured by Jack that, along with your old friends and family, Fido will be there also to play Frisbee and fetch your slippers.
If you believe in this rubbish you have a weak mind and are easily led.

Dr. Jack & Rexella Van Impe
For anyone who has ever lost a beloved pet, Dr. Jack and Rexella Van Impe have good news! You will see your furry or feathered friends again - in heaven! Explore this exciting truth taught by twelve of the greatest Christian theologians.
You will see and hear the exact spine-tingling statements from the pens of men like Dr. John Walvoord, Dr. Billy Graham, Dr. J. Vernon McGee, Dr. John Calvin and many others. This video study deals with animal intelligence, animal communication, and how animals literally teach humans some valuable lessons.

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian.

Skeeve at Atheists.com posted this link to the "Best Of" page at Craigslist and I found this post there.

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian.
Date: 2006-06-02, 1:10PM MST

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Stop the rightwing hatemongers.

This is a message from Media Matters

Recently, the major television networks have given a platform to conservative hate merchants like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Melanie Morgan. One of the country's largest syndicates, Universal Press Syndicate, distributes Coulter's column. Beck was recently hired by CNN Headline News. Morgan broadcasts from a radio station owned by Disney. And all three -- and countless others like them -- are regularly given guest spots on cable-news networks.

The fact that these right-wing pundits -- who have called for the execution of public officials and others -- are given a platform in the major media is unprecedented.
We, the undersigned, urge the media to stop allowing these hate merchants to spread their venom and abuse. America deserves to hear honest, reasoned debate, not rants from professional hatemongers.

Click here to add your name.

The only thing I have to add is that this should also be aimed at the left wing hate mongers who spread the same putrid venom at the other end of the spectrum.
But I just can’t think of any.

God Hates Shrimp!

Yet more stupid idiocy from the Bible.

Leviticus 11:9-12 (King James Version)

9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.

12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Who knew?

Very interesting post from the Atheists.com forum.

This is a very good post from LawnmowerMan at Atheists.com.
He writes:

It seems to me that even Christians will go to "hell". It goes to show how hypocritical christians are to begin with as there are 2 sets of Ten Commandments in the Bible itself.

First Set is as follows which Christians love to post everywhere and anywhere and everyone knows and "loves": Exodus 20:
1.Thou shalt have no other god Before me.
2. Thou shalt not liken untop thyself any graven images.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor thy father and mother.
6. Thou shalt not kill
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not lie.
10.Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife or his belongings.

Second Set is as follows and it's the ONLY set out of the two that is actually called "the ten commandments" by God himself, in the Bible. Exodus 34:
1. Thou shalt not worship any other God. For the Lord thy God is a jealous God.
2. Thou shalt make thee no molten Gods.
3. The Feast of Unleavened Bread thou shalt keep in the month when the ear is on the Corn.
4. The first born child of each father and of each mother are mine.
5. Thou shalt work for 6 days but on the seventh thou shalt rest.
6. Thou shalt observe the Feast of Weeks, even of the first fruits of the wheat harvest.
7. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread.
8. The fat of my feast shalt not remain all night until the morning.
9. The first of the fruits of thy ground thou shalt bring into the house of the Lord.
10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in it's mother's milk.

Now keep in mind that all christians everywhere when reciting and trying to force people to follow the Ten COmmandments it's always the first set which I listed. But the bible calls only the second set which i listed as "Ten Commandments." So it all goes in showing that not even Christians are following their own "divine scripture"

There are also other laws in which the Bible states that if not followed will lead to eternal damnation.

Such as: Leviticus 19:19 where you cannot wear garments made of two different types of material. Meaning no pants, no shirts no underwear, made 50% cotton, 50% polyester or whatever the case may be. Leviticus 11:6-8 Says you may never touch the skin of a dead pig as it makes you unclean, yet we have Christian football players.

Also a question I am grappling with for you Christians out there.... As sanctioned in Exodus 21:7 I would like to sell my daughter into slavery. In this day and age what do you think is a good price for her?

Superb!

Lay of the Land.

The cave-dwelling, hunchbacked English dwarf is one of Philly's finest.
by Steven Wells

Achtung! Achtung! The Storm Troopers of Gay Liberation have scored another victory in their satanically inspired jihad against the American family.

In Philadelphia in 2004, 11 self-described “Christians” were arrested for shouting through megaphones at partying same-sexers. They were later charged with hate crimes, but then released. Score one for the American family!

But now an attempt by the American Family Association of Pennsylvania to have this savage repression of Christian free speech commemorated by a historical plaque has been refused.

Oh no! What would Jesus say? Well, nothing, probably. Seeing as he had the square root of bugger all to say about homosexuality while alive, just as he said zilch about people who visit the barber or plant two crops in one field and all the other silly rubbish you find banned in Corinthians (the bit of the Bible Christian homophobes use to justify their peculiarly obsessive hatred of chaps who like shopping).

Manned journey to the Sun.

In an effort to challenge recent assertions that his administration is “Anti science” George Bush announced to the media today that he will be funding a manned space flight to explore the sun.

“Yes we have taken that into account and so they’re going at night”

Be honest.

Which sounds more plausible?

  1. Everything on this planet started as very simple cells that changed ever so slightly every year so that, after 4.5 Billion years had passed, we now have very intricate organisms that have highly developed and complex biology.

Or.

  1. A creature that lives out of sight simply went “poof” and there we were.

If you answered 1. Well done. You are obviously an intelligent and thoughtful person who, when faced with, what is admittedly an obvious question, doesn’t rely on others to tell you what to think. You should be commended for you ability to withstand generations of indoctrination and propaganda.

If you answered 2. Sorry. Wrong answer. You should be very ashamed of your pitiful lack of reality and you need to take a long hard look at yourself.
Don’t go out in public where you might pass your insane views on to others.
Don’t breed and raise innocent children to share your appalling beliefs.
In fact. Stay home in a dark room where you can’t do any harm to those of us who simply want to enjoy life.

Three Brazilian soldiers killed.

Donald Rumsfeld briefed the President this morning. He told Bush
that three Brazilian soldiers were killed during the night.

To everyone's amazement all of the color drained from Bush's face, then he collapsed onto his desk, his head in his hands, visibly shaken, almost whimpering.

Finally, he composed himself and asked Rumsfeld, "Exactly how many is a brazillion?"

Intelligent design a difficult foe.

For many, evolution theory hard to grasp.

Scientists are absolutely correct to argue that intelligent design — the claim that a designer, not evolution, created life on Earth — is not science and does not belong in science classrooms. But it might come as a surprise to many of them that simply saying so isn't enough.

Reply to a Christian by Sam Harris.

If you are a budding atheist you probably should learn more about Sam Harris. He, along with others such as Richard Dawkins and Daniel Dennett are leading the charge against irrational, childish, religious beliefs.
Below is Sam Harris' "Reply To A Christian" which is a superb, no nonsense look at the hypocrisy of religious teachings.

Reply to a Christian
By Sam Harris

Since the publication of my first book, The End of Faith, I have received thousands of letters and e-mails from religious believers insisting that I am wrong not to believe in God. Invariably, the most unpleasant of these communications have come from Christians. This is ironic, as Christians generally believe that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own. Please accept this for what it is: the testimony of a man who is in a position to observe how people behave when their faith is challenged. Many who claim to have been transformed by Christ's love are deeply, even murderously, intolerant of criticism. While you may ascribe this to human nature, it is clear that the hatred these people feel comes directly from the Bible. How do I know this? Because the most deranged of my correspondents always cite chapter and verse.

Sinister and unnerving.

I’ve always thought there was something very sinister and unnerving about the Catholic church and now I see why.

An un-scientific observation.

This is a very un-scientific observation, but I must say that, as I look at all the people I know or have met, it seems that the more intelligent and educated a person is the less likely they are to believe in god.

There are many intelligent and well educated people who profess to a belief in god but they have to for the sake of their livelihood. Politicians, talk show hosts, teli-evangelists and so forth. Rush Limbaugh is a good example. Even though I disagree with almost everything that says, he is still clearly an intelligent person. His entire career is based on a right wing platform and that includes deference to the almighty. I don’t believe for a second that he really believes the god story but for the sake of his career he has to.

If fact the only exception to this rule that I can see is me!
I’m a somewhat stupid person and yet it’s obvious to me that god is a man made myth.

Disclaimer stickers for the Bible.

In light of the recent request by religious groups that the creators of the movie "The DaVinci Code" put a disclaimer at the beginning of the film announcing that it's fiction, I thought it's about time we pointed out the same obvious truth concerning the Bible.

So if you plan on staying in a hotel please help me out.

There will always be a Bible in the nightstand drawer (In America anyway) and if you have a spare moment, print a sheet of these disclaimer labels so that you can stick them on the inside cover.

NOTE:
This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents either are the product of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, business establishments, events or locales is entirely coincidental.

Either use the above text to create your own labels or click here to go to a PDF file to print them on 2" X 4" address labels and then stick the little buggers in every damn Bible you can find.

A simple definition of Left Vs Right.

A simple definition of the difference between those on the Right and those on the Left is this.

To people on the Right everything is black and white.
To members of the Left everything is shades of gray.

If you are honest in your opinion and will truly look at facts and evidence you’ll see that nothing is ever black and white. NOTHING.

You can say that it’s wrong to kill and that is an absolute truth. However, when our leaders send us off to fight a war and kill others that’s allowed.
If you believe in the Bible don’t try and argue the claim that it’s wrong to murder and not to “Kill” because the Bible clearly says “Thou shalt not kill” It also doesn’t make it clear what we shouldn’t kill. It just says that we must not and yet we have to kill animals all day every day in order to eat.
So even the most fundamental rule of our society is gray.

The fallacy of a link between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda.

The administration has claimed there were links between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein because known terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was spotted in Iraq some months before 911.

If this assertion is true and holds water as proof of a link between the two parties then I must now point out that there is then clearly a link between the terrorists and George Bush because all 19 hijackers were not only spotted in America in the days, weeks and months leading up to 911 but we have video of them boarding planes at American airports.

The truth is that there was no link between Hussein and Al Qaeda because radical Islamic terrorists hate Saddam Husein more than they hate us because he ran Iraq as a non Islamic state.

They couldn't have asked for a more pleasant outcome to 911 than having us, invade Iraq and oust Saddam Hussein for them.

Our stupid fucking president and his asshole advisors played right into their hands.

(I debated removing the words "Fucking" and "asshole" but they so aptly describe my feelings that I decided to leave them in. Another good description for George Bush would also, of course, be "Shit for brains")

I’ve had an idea.
To really show these damn Mexicans that we mean business and that we will not tolerate them coming over here and doing things lets do this.

Lets sing their national anthem in English.

Can you imagine how upset they will be? They’ll take to the streets in protest. Their little Mexican faces will be shiny with tears. They will probably shake their fists in hearty defiance not caring that they are holding a burrito and a couple of tacos that get all mangled.

Oh wait a minute I’m forgetting something. They’re not stupid like American conservatives are. They’ll probably not give a rats ass (arse).

They hate us for our Freedom.

How many times have we heard George Bush say that?

This seems to me to be a particularly stupid thing to say about people who live in an area that has no functioning government, no police and no army.

They have no one to tell them what they can and can’t do. They have all the freedom in the world right now. If they want to play loud music after 10pm there is no one to stop them. If they want to kidnap a bus full of trainee police and kill them they can.

And George Bush is trying to make us believe that the “terrorists” hate us because they’re jealous of our freedom. Because we have a police force just down the road, a county sheriff in a local city and a state police post not to far away. We have an army national-guard base in the area and a regular army post near by. We have the CIA the NSA the FBI the ATF all watching to make sure that we don’t break any of the thousands of laws that govern our behavior.

Yep, all this makes the “terrorists’ mighty jealous.

So stop saying it George. It just makes you look even more stupid than you already look.

Oh and please stop invoking the memory of 911 to scare the American people into rushing for the false safety of the protective arms of your government where, once paralyzed by fear, they can be quietly blinded to your destruction of the constitution.

Thanks buddy.

Little evidence to support creation.

If an atheist ever tells you that there is little evidence that god created the universe you should make it very clear that they are wrong. Very wrong!
There is, in fact, NO evidence. None. Not a grain of sand sized piece of evidence that any supernatural being had anything to do with the existence of anything.

There is however mountains of evidence that proves evolution. Mountains of the damn stuff.

Sadly though there does also seem to be compelling evidence that we are now devolving. Just peer through the window of any church on a Sunday morning. Or go to a school board meeting is Arkansas. Or better yet, listen to the anti science propaganda that spews from the current American leaders.

It’s all very very sad.

My email to Bill OReilly.

Mr O’Reilly,
Please add me to your "Hall of Shame"
This is my website: http://harrybathwater.blogspot.com/

Admittedly I haven’t actually written anything on my blog that could be considered “smearing” you yet but it won’t be too long before I do and so I’m hoping that you could list me now.

Thank you and regards.

Harry Bathwater

The terrorists are "fundraising".

Let me explain something about terrorists.

The main job of a terrorist leader such as BinLaden is the exact same job as a politician in America.

Fundraising.

Without money they are both dead in the water.

To fundraise, therefore, both groups use whatever power they have. Politicians, it seems, have a friendly “scratch my back” policy because their power is in drafting legislation.

Terrorists, however, have bombs.

If it seems strange to you that places such as seaside resorts in Egypt and Indonesia are terrorist targets when there are other softer and more political targets easily available, this is the reason.

The terrorists are fundraising.
They know the devastating effect that a bomb blast will have on the economy of a holiday resort and so they explode a few at the beginning of the tourist season. This immediately terrifies the owners of other such locations in the region and causes them to do whatever it takes to protect their livelihoods.

They will then pay “under the counter” for protection and you can bet that hotel owners all around the Red sea are now scrambling to "cough up some wedge".

The same thing took place in Ireland for years. People would go to the business owners in the area and ask for financial help in the “struggle” or the "cause". If a business owner didn’t pay, his location would be destroyed in a “terrorist bombing”. This made sure that all the other business owners would then pay up.

It’s a simple protection racket and, because it’s how these people earn their living, it’s not going to stop. The terrorists would be very reluctant to give up a career that affords them a superb income, relaxed hours, power and notoriety in favour of a 9-5 down at the docks.

I also believe that this is the main reason why we haven’t had any terrorist incidents within America since 911. The terrorist thugs know that it would be much harder to extort money from American business owners because they are hardly going to hand over cash to “support the terrorist cause” the way Middle Eastern business owners will.

Would someone please forward this to the Whitehouse because the Bush people don't understand that terrorists are simply gangsters selling protection.
They use the guise of a political struggle to raise funds.
They therefore have no interest in the struggle going away.
And it's hard to fight gangsters with armies.

(above graphic from MSNBC.com)

Fighting them over there.

Pinky (as in Pinky and the Brain –George and Karl) keeps talking about “fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here”

I must point out that, as we all know now, Iraq has nothing to do with the 911 attacks.

This means therefore, that we simply chose a random country to be the “over there”

I’m glad, of course, that he chose Iraq instead of Italy or Portugal as the battleground but I’m sure it has pissed off the Iraqis.

Slogan of the day:

Thank God I'm an atheist!

Wanted: Gutsy former believer.

I have stated many times before that religion is the biggest “con trick” in the world. People pay good money to shysters selling “heaven insurance”.

I fully understand that a great many of these “shysters” totally believe the repugnant message that they preach from their lofty pulpit each Sunday and they have no idea that they are perpetrating a massive fraud, but the sad fact is that they are.
They are extorting money from their congregation using the fiction of an “afterlife” which is just a vile scare tactic designed to extort money from people using the threat of eternal damnation.

What is needed therefore is a former believer who has been duped by this racket for most of his life and has handed over many hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars and is now willing to stand, broad shouldered, against this crime and file a lawsuit.

He or she will demand irrefutable proof, to be demonstrated in a court of law, that everything they have been told about god, Jesus, heaven and hell is true. Otherwise they receive financial restitution plus damages.

This person will need a strong backbone and skin thick enough to withstand the shrieking and howling that will undoubtedly arise from the mindless religious autobots who vilify all who disagree with their pernicious notions.

Also wanted: Lawyer with massive cochonnes.

Compelling evidence that Bush is the Anti-Christ.

Being an atheist I don't, of course believe in an "anti-christ" just as I don't believe in the theory of god.

However.....

It must be said that this website has a very compelling argument that George Bush is the actual spawn of the devil.

http://www.bushisantichrist.com/

And if it someday turns out to not be true, and that George Bush is simply a stupid man that was carried on the shoulders of clever men into the most important job in the world I'll apologize for thinking the worst. - Harry.

Why I don't believe in god. A brief summary.

By
Harry Bathwater

The world is heading in a dangerous direction and it's because of this pernicious belief in god.

A belief in god shows a dramatic lack of understanding of the real world.
At about the same time that I stopped believing in Santa Claus and the Easter bunny I also stopped believing in god. It was very apparent top me at the age of about 7 that god was not real. I kept believing it however until I was perhaps 13 because it is such an ingrained tradition.

I understand that none of us wants to be alone in our own heads and it’s very comforting to believe that someone is in there with us, but they are not.

I also understand that no of us wants to die and it’s REALLY comforting to believe that we don’t. But that instead we float up to heaven where we sit at god’s side for all eternity.

And I now know that thunder and lightning are not god being angry with us and that the northern lights are not fairies and that a solar eclipse is not gods trick to get our attention.

We have created god for two reasons.

1. It is a way of explaining things we don’t understand. Death, the weather etc.

2. It is a fantastic way for a lot of people to make a living.

God and the devil is a “carrot and stick” designed to make us do what someone else wants us to do and there a lot of people in the world telling us we need to contribute to their church to please god. It is the biggest confidence trick ever.

To believe in god you must pluck out the eyes of reason.

I am a proud member of the reality based community.

I always win every argument about the existence of god and every time my opponents are left with just one pitiful closing volley. Pascal’s wager.

So in summary, the reason I don’t believe in god is because I’m a grown up.

War on Christianity?

By
Harry Bathwater

Let it be known, I have declared war on Christians and all other religions. Let it be known, I am hostile to Christianity and all other religions. Let it be known. If you believe in all this superstitious rubbish then you are a fool!

The Republicans know they are in serious trouble and stand a very good chance of being trounced in the election this November and so they are now trying to whip up some hysteria amongst their religious base with this "War on Christianity".

The only good thing I have to say about Bush and his evil band of incompetents is that I don’t believe they have a religious bone in their bodies.
They are simply using this god nonsense to attract poor, un-educated believers who don’t know any better.

Evoloution is now called the "E-word"

Unbelievable!
By
Harry Bathwater

This facility should be closed down rather that than teach dangerous pseudo science.
I came to America 20 years ago and I can’t believe how stupid this country is becoming!
It’s as though we’re living inside a science fiction movie and the mindless zombie hoards are stumbling around destroying all common sense.
The thing is. It’s not a movie. It’s real. It’s actually happening.
America is going backwards.

Unfortunately for the teachers, at wherever this is, they are on the front line in this struggle and have been thrust into a very unpleasant position.
They need to make a stand. It is too important to simply “grin and bear it”
I realize that it’s easy for me to order others into battle when my livelihood isn’t on the line but I make this prediction.
If those involved make a lot of noise and attract enough national publicity, if they do loose, and their jobs are no longer funded, they will be offered new jobs by others on their side. Others who feel strongly about the alarming direction in which America is heading and are in a position to provide employment to teachers with principles and a deep concern for the future of both their students and America as a whole.

In fact, the call should go out now for someone to step forward and make it clear to these embattled educators that they will be offered new positions should the worst happen.

Thank you to OneGoodMove for this story.

David Letterman v. Bill O'Reilly

By Harry Bathwater

Take a look at this video of O’Reilly on the David Letterman show.
About 2/3 of the way through O’Reilly refers to Britain’s MI6.

The problem for O’Reilly is that he thinks they are called M1-6 (M One 6)
The MI stands for "Military intelligence".

He's confusing Britain’s main freeway (Motorway) the M1 with the countries main intelligence gathering organization.

By the way. This is the definition of a "Freedom Fighter Vs Terrorist"
You are a Terrorist if you target civilians.
You are a Freedom Fighter if your targets are military.

I understand that by saying this I am calling the leaders of my own country, England, terrorists because they carpet bombed Dresden in Germany during WWII but I accept that. At that moment in history it needed to be done.

On the other hand, those who use “IEDs” to destroy military convoys are freedom fighters. I am simply talking semantics here. The people who plant IEDs are still bad people. The use of the term "Freedom Fighter" conjures up a romantic image of an underdog caught in a "David and Goliath" struggle. Not all freedom fighters are fighting for a just cause by any means.

Any act of war that targets civilians is an act of terrorism. However, if civilians are harmed because of their close proximity to a legitimate military target that is an unfortunate consequence of a war zone and not terrorism.

Would the World please wake up and help us do something?!!!!

This is terrifying.
In his new book "American Theocracy” Kevin Phillips explains how religious extremism is influencing the White House. He was recently interviewed by Lou Dobbs on CNN and made this shocking claim:

Phillips: One of the reasons I think we have kind of screwed up economic policy in some ways is that a lot of Americans have stopped worrying about the economy because they're waiting for the second coming.

Dobbs: And you mean this quite literally?

Phillips: I mean it quite literally.

Why bother to buy new clothes or a new car?
Jesus is coming soon.

World, please get of your butts and stand up to this country and help those of us here on the inside to turn things around.

It's not up to me to prove that god doesn't exist.

By
Harry Bathwater

I recently received an email from someone who runs a Christian website, and in answer to my comment that god doesn't exist they asked me to "Prove it"

I'm sorry but that is the wrong way round.

If you believe something and you want others to believe it also, the onus is on you to prove your theory using evidence and data.

There is no evidence and data backing up a belief in god because there is no such thing as god.

If I was to assert that all living things were created by the Flying Spaghetti Monster you would want me to provide proof. I can't because it's untrue.

I challenge anyone to point to ANY firm evidence, not feelings or anecdotal stories but actual duplicateable evidence, that shows god exists.

You can’t because he doesn’t.

I can, however, give you mountains of logic that disproves his existance. Mountains of it!!

Atheism. Our only chance for peace?

By SLAVOJ ZIZEK

FOR centuries, we have been told that without religion we are no more than egotistic animals fighting for our share, our only morality that of a pack of wolves; only religion, it is said, can elevate us to a higher spiritual level. Today, when religion is emerging as the wellspring of murderous violence around the world, assurances that Christian or Muslim or Hindu fundamentalists are only abusing and perverting the noble spiritual messages of their creeds ring increasingly hollow. What about restoring the dignity of atheism, one of Europe's greatest legacies and perhaps our only chance for peace?

American Atheist Logo.

(This is from the American Atheist website)

An international symbol for Atheism has long been needed. When American Atheists was formed in 1963, a contemporary scientific symbol was chosen; this acknowledges that only through the use of scientific analysis and free, open inquiry can humankind reach out for a better life.
Recognizing the new atomic era, but also emphasizing the truths of older scientific findings, the atomic whirl was chosen. The atom is still a distinguishing unit of all matter, the smallest particle of an element that can exist and still retain the properties of that element.
You may notice that one of the orbital in our symbol is broken, or open-ended. This demonstrates that while Atheists rely on the scientific method for learning about the cosmos and increasing our knowledge about nature, we know that "not all of the answers are in." We recognize that with new knowledge come new questions and areas for human inquiry and exploration.
That open orbital forms an "A" to represent Atheism. The small letter in the center represents of the first letter of the country in which an affiliated group is located. In our case, the "A" signifies American, and the symbol thus represents American Atheists.

War on Christmas?

By
Harry Bathwater

I celebrate Christmas and I enjoy it. Of course, it has no religious meaning to me whatsoever.

If fact I enjoy pointing out to believers that they go to church on Sunday a day that celebrates Sunne the Germanic sun goddess.

They start the work week on Monday named after Mani a German Moon god.

Tuesday is named after the Nordic god Tyr.

Wednesday comes from the Old English Wodnesdæg meaning the day of the Germanic god Woden who was a god of the Anglo Saxons in England until about the 7th C. AD.

Thursday is a good one. It’s named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder.

Friday is from Frige the Norse god of beauty.

Saturday is the only day of the week to retain its Roman origin in English, named after the Roman god of time Saturn.

January is named for Janus, the god of doors and gateways in Roman mythology.

February was probably named for the Roman god Februus, the god of purification or the Roman god Juno Februata the goddess of passion.

March was called Martius, so named after the Roman god of war and was considered a lucky time to begin a war.

If fact all the months are named in honour of Roman divinities.

So there you have it. If uninformed Christians want to try and accuse me of an inconsistency because they hear me wish someone a “Merry Christmas” I let em have it with both barrels!

New Header

The time has come to admit out loud, that a belief in god is an irrational and dangerous fallacy. Atheists need to stand up and proselytize. We need to spread the good news that god is a myth, there is no devil and that no one ever burns in hell.

I was somewhat surprised to see my name on a placard at a Muslim demonstration in Pakistan today.

A friend of mine who speaks Arabic tells me that the wording underneath my name says:
"John, Paul, George, Ringo and Harry we love you"

It warms the cockles of my heart to know that I'm so beloved in the Muslim world.

I have stopped debating god people concerning Evolution.

By
Harry Bathwater

It’s simply not fair of me to engage people of such diminished intelligence in an argument that they clearly have no chance of winning.

In the past I have often felt a little ashamed at how, using logic and common sense, I eviscerate believers of all things superstitious and leave their carved up little minds twitching in the dirt. As I walk away, dusting off my hands, I hear them crying pitifully for a god that doesn’t exist to come and save them from ideas that challenge their pathetic and feeble beliefs.

I’ve just changed my mind.

After reading this back to myself I realize that it’s simply too much fun and I intend to destroy their dangerous fictions where ever I find them.

Sorry.

Cheney shooting incident.

Hmmm…. Why did they wait until the next day to announce the incident to the press?

I have been presuming it was because they wanted to make sure the guy was going to live, but the more I hear about the possibility that Chaney was drunk the more sense it makes.

Dick Cheney shoots someone.

By
Harry Bathwater

In a thinly veiled threat to Scooter Libby, Dick Cheney shot a man this weekend.

Apparently the Vice President, an avid hunter and outdoorsman, wanted to clean the man himself and was already calling his taxidermist when an aide informed Mr Cheney that the victim, Mr Harry Whittington a lawyer and campaign contributor was still alive.

According to sources the Vice President angrily shouted “Do you have any idea how much a lawyer would be worth?”

One source told us that Mr Cheney had already telephoned his wife and told her to move the moose head currently hanging over the billiard table.

The White House delayed reporting the incident to the press for more than 24 hours to make sure that Mr Whittington survived the shooting and to give Mr Cheney time to get the proper license just in case.

Islam shoots itself in the foot once again.

Islam is proving to be the worst of all the vile ways of worshiping god.
I believe that the following is by the talk show host Neal Boortz who I know nothing about at all but I agree with this.

* Muslims fly commercial airliners into buildings in New York City. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslim officials block the exit where school girls are trying to escape a burning building because their faces were exposed. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims cut off the heads of three teenaged girls on their way to school in Indonesia. A Christian school. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims murder teachers trying to teach Muslim children in Iraq. No Muslim outrage
.
* Muslims murder over 80 tourists with car bombs outside cafes and hotels in Egypt. No Muslim outrage.

* A Muslim attacks a missionary children's school in India. Kills six. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims slaughter hundreds of children and teachers in Beslan, Russia. Muslims shoot children in the back. No Muslim outrage.

* Let's go way back. Muslims kidnap and kill athletes at the Munich Summer Olympics. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims fire rocket-propelled grenades into schools full of children in Israel. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims murder more than 50 commuters in attacks on London subways and busses. Over 700 are injured. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims massacre dozens of innocents at a Passover Seder. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims murder innocent vacationers in Bali. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslim newspapers publish anti-Semitic cartoons. No Muslim outrage

* Muslims are involved, on one side or the other, in almost every one of the 125+ shooting wars around the world. No Muslim outrage.

* Muslims beat the charred bodies of Western civilians with their shoes, and then hang them from a bridge. No Muslim outrage.

* Newspapers in Denmark and Norway publish cartoons depicting Mohammed. Muslims are outraged.

Dead children. Dead tourists. Dead teachers. Dead doctors and nurses. Death, destruction and mayhem around the world at the hands of Muslims .. no Muslim outrage ... but publish a cartoon depicting Mohammed with a bomb in his turban and all hell breaks loose.

Would Professor Richard Dawkins please move to America.

By
Harry Bathwater

There is no doubt that Islam is a backwards religion that never moved out of the middle ages. It breeds radical thinking that all too often erupts into violence and this is becoming a poison that is infecting the world.

The problem is.

Instead of trying to help the Muslim world move forward into the 21 Century, America is moving backwards to join them in their outdated thinking.
Americans currently have leaders who are using this religious fervor to whip up the emotions of their countrymen and negate decades of progress toward rational thinking.

Would Professor Richard Dawkins please move to America.

Why we need wars.

By
Harry Bathwater

It’s a sad fact that we need to have wars. Wars are a necessary part of our existence and I’ll explain why.

Every creature on this planet is subject to the “balance of nature”. There are mechanisms in place that keep their total numbers down to a reasonable level. The world doesn’t get overrun by rabbits for example because there wouldn’t be enough food for them, many would die of disease and other animals would prey upon them and so their numbers would be reduced to a normal level.

Every creature except mankind that is.

We live in strong buildings that shelter us from the weather. We have developed a sophisticated food supply. We have amazing medical techniques that keep us alive long after we would have otherwise died. We have, to a large degree, stepped outside of the balance of nature and so we have had to invent things that would reduce our numbers and primary among them is war.
Imagine ALL the people that have died from anything that could be called a war. Not just in recent times but go all the way back to when cavemen first got angry with each other and mounted raids on other cavemen camps.
There is no way of knowing how many people that number would be but I’ll bet it’s in the Trillions and Trillions!.

Now imagine if there had never been a war and those people had not died but had gone on to have children who also had children and so on.
There would be so many more Trillions of people on this planet that we would be standing shoulder to shoulder in any empty space available.

So wars, just like car crashes, abortion, sky diving accidents etc, are ways that modern mankind has had to keep our population down to a reasonable level.

It’s a terribly sad fact that we die. But we have to in order to make way for the next generation that is coming up behind us on the relentless conveyer belt of life.

So from a global viewpoint we need wars. However, from a local level I still feel that we must do whatever we can to avoid them and we need to critically hold to account those who start wars for unnecessary reasons like the Bush regime has recently.

Britain and America used to be the good guys but we no longer are. Our leaders have dragged us into a vile conflict that we had no business starting.
After the terrorists attacked America on September 11th 2001 we did the right thing by saying to the Taliban in Afghanistan “Hand over those responsible or we are coming in”

We had the moral high ground in that instance George Bush did the correct thing. In fact at that moment I was glad that our president was George Bush and not Al Gore because I thought Bush was doing the right thing and he seemed to be acting like Margaret Thatcher did when the Argentines invaded one of our islands in the South Atlantic in 1980.

I was totally behind him. And it’s not so much that the Taliban didn’t hand over Osama Bin Laden, because we could not have been sure that he was responsible for 9-11. But they didn’t even try to help us.

America was a big friendly guy who has his faults but had been hit in the face, hard for no reason.

The Taliban deserved to get dethroned.

Iraq however is a totally different issue. We had no business at all invading that country. It was very clear to me, an idiot living in Michigan, that Saddam Hussein had no connection to the 9-11 attackers.

We invaded his country because this Bush government is full of nasty, war mongering power lusting people whose only concern is filling their pockets.

The citizens of America and Britain need to rise up and throw these people, not just out, but in jail.

So, as a person who clearly sees why humans need wars I am still very ashamed that my leaders have started one that is immorally wrong.

Oh and by the way.
The war was not started on 9-11. That was a criminal act. Wars are fought against solders of other countries not Terrorists.
This is how you can tell what is a war and what is not.
It’s a war if your opponents are soldiers in uniform.
If they are wearing civilian clothes it’s not a war it’s a police matter.
Those caught wearing regular clothes during the 2nd World War were considered spies and were tried and if convicted that were shot. They were not afforded the treatment that a soldier was given under the Geneva convention because they were not soldiers.

You can’t have a war on terror just as you can’t have a war on drugs.
I’m arguing semantics now because we still need to fight terrorists just like we need to fight drug use but the wording is wrong. These are not wars.

Politicians who Flip Flop.

By
Harry Bathwater

Our politicians are supposed to “Flip flop”

That is their job!

We, in America, live in a representative democracy.
This means that, because we can’t all fit in congress we select people to represent us there. They are there to do our bidding and vote how we, as their constituents, want. They are not there to “vote their conscience”. Their conscience is irrelevant! We don’t elect people because we think they are swell guys and we want to see them do well in life. We elect them to vote the way we want. The last thing in the world we should want is for our representative to “stick to their guns” and vote in a way that is counter to our wishes.

Quite honestly, politicians SHOULD “hold their finger up in the air and see which way the wind is blowing” because we are the “wind” and they have been elected to carry out OUR wishes, NOT THEIRS!

If we, as a nation, start to feel differently about an issue then our representatives better damn well feel the same way!

Next time you hear someone criticizing a politician for “flip flopping” say to them,
“Bloody good show, we need more people in office like that”

Rush Limbaugh is what we all should fear.

By
Harry Bathwater

There is no doubt that Rush Limbaugh (Americas #1 hatemonger) wields a huge amount of power with his zombie hoards, and because of this I believe him to be the most powerful man in America.

The recent rise of the Republicans and their extreme right wing ideology can be traced back to the rise in popularity of Rush Limbaugh.

He constantly professes to be nothing more than an entertainer but he is far far more than that.

He is what we all should fear.
A charismatic orator with an extreme agenda.

Atheist: We need a new word.

Due to the clever indoctrination of most Americans by their religious leaders, the word "Atheist" has become a scary word that conjures up an image of devil worshipers, anarchy and other stupid horrors.

Because of the direction I see America heading, I am now firmly of the belief that Atheists need to start speaking up.
We should spread the good news that god is a myth, no one has to be scared that they’ll burn in hell for eternity and that idle hands are not the devils playground.

I therefore propose that we search for a new word or phrase that does not have the negative baggage that Atheist seems to have. Something that would be more marketable. Kind of like the other side has done with “Intelligent Design” as a new way of describing Creation.

I’m sure that a lot of you will howl in protest at this and I don’t blame you. I am very proud to call my self an Atheist.
I do, however, realize that I often say it out loud a dinner parties and such just to see the shocked reaction.

I guess my question becomes this:

1) Do we all want to make others realize that religion is all Gobshite (Mouth shit)
or am I the only one?

2) How serious about changing those peoples minds are we?

Think up something warm and fuzzy that people feel comfortable enough to cuddle next to their dogma soaked minds, not realizing that a new thought is seeping in.
Because I can guarantee that as soon as you say “Atheist” the steel door of mindless resistance to logic and reason slams shut.

Quote: Albert Einstein.

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

Letter to George W. Bush concerning spying.

By
Harry Bathwater

Every American citizen should send this letter to the White House especially if you are part of an organization that this government considers a threat.

Every candidate that ran against this government in the last election should definitely send this letter.

Copy and paste the following letter into your word processing program.
Fill in your details, print it and mail it to both the address below and send a CC to your favorite newspaper.

George W. Bush Esq.
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
Washington DC 20500

Dear Mr. Bush,
In light of the recent revelations concerning your administration having have spied on US citizens I would suggest that the concern is not whether you spied on suspected terrorists but that, once you stepped outside the constraints of the law, and the correct legal safeguards were no longer in effect, did you spy on anyone else?

Your political opponents, for example.

Now that your government has been caught breaking the law you no longer enjoy the "benefit of the doubt" and have created a new, much lower, threshold of integrity for yourselvs.
Your argued reason for breaking the law is irrelevant. We all want to catch terrorists and we want to catch them quickly, and the current legal requirements of the Foreign Intelligence Surviellance Act allow for that.

I therefore request a signed letter from you stating that my privacy and the privacy of my family was in no way compromised by your activities.

My name /organization is ………………………………………………………..

My address is…………………………………………………………………….

I realize that you will need some time to check the records at the NSA but I do ask that you respond quickly in this important matter.

Yours Sincerely

Why there will never be a liberal Rush Limbaugh

By
Harry Bathwater

The reason why there there can never be a liberal version of the popular talk show host and Americas number 1 hatemonger, Rush Limbaugh is simple. Liberals and progressives are generally people who think about issues themselves and come to decisions after much contemplation.
Rush Limbaugh's audience are, for the most part, people who don't want to have to think about issues, they just want Rush to tell them what to think.Liberal and progressive people therefore would never be happy ceding their minds over to a talk show host who merely has a commanding voice and fantastic delivery.
