Blasphemous insults.

It is almost guaranteed that at the end of a theological discussion with a god lover, when they can see that I am obviously winning, they will start throwing out ridiculous “What if’s” in desperation.

In exasperation at their futile attempts to charge my windmill I will utter an expletive such as “Oh my god” or “Jesus Christ”
My opponent will always point an accusing finger at me and triumphantly announce “Ha, see you do believe in god because you just said his name”

I am then forced to point out that to me Jesus Christ is simply a swear word and “God” is a great word to show astonishment.
Nothing more.

If we had a better announcement of surprise than “Oh my god” I would use it but we don’t. It is part of our lexicon. As are other favorites like:

“Holy Cow”
“Mary Mother of God!”
Jesus H. Christ”
“Christ on a Stick”
“Hell”
“Bloody Hell” (This is short for By Our lady)
“Hells Bells”

Please help me compile a list of other blasphemous insults.

Families Challenging Religious Influence in Delaware Schools.

Until recently, it was safe to assume that everyone in the Indian River district was Christian, said the Rev. Mark Harris, an Episcopal priest at St. Peter’s Church in Lewes.

Read the story here...

Andrea Yates: Simply taking her religion to it's logical end.

I just read this from the “Hotline” section of a local newspaper.

IT WAS AN EXTREMELY sad day for America and its children yesterday when Andrea Yates was ruled not guilty by reason of insanity. She will be out on the streets again someday in the future, and possibly have children again sometime in her life. How very, very sad. I'm disgusted by our legal system.

Andrea Yates is, of course, the woman who killed her five small children by drowning them in the bathtub.

A terrible and awful crime indeed but she is clearly insane. I could not imagine a more perfect test to determine someone’s sanity than asking them:
“Have you ever drowned any of your children in the bath tub?”

If the answer is “Yes”
Bingo! Lunatic in the room.
Now move straight from criminal proceedings to a mental health issue.

Show some compassion will you? The woman did an unimaginably horrifying thing but is obviously suffering from a very sick mental condition which has clearly been inflamed by her religious beliefs. If you want to be angry with someone it should be directed at the religion that instilled in her those hateful thoughts.

She told a jail psychiatrist this …

"My children were not righteous. I let them stumble. They were doomed to perish in the fires of hell"

This was told to Dr. Melissa Ferguson, the medical director of psychiatric services at the Harris County Jail. Read more here...

Walking on water? Probably ice!

The Rational Response Squad has an interesting post on the Jesus walking on water story.

Read it here...

This is an actual picture of Jesus pulling his fishing gear across frozen water to his ice shanty.

Conservatives Without Conscience.

John Dean and Authoritarian Cultism - a Review
By: Glenn Greenwald.

In his new best selling book, Conservatives Without Conscience John Dean contends, and amply documents, that the "conservative" movement has become, at its core, an authoritarian movement composed of those with a psychological and emotional need to follow a strong authority figure which provides them a sense of moral clarity and a feeling of individual power, the absence of which creates fear and insecurity in the individuals who crave it. By definition, its followers’ devotion to authority and the movement’s own power is supreme, thereby overriding the consciences of its individual members and removing any intellectual and moral limits on what will be justified in defense of their movement.

Animals in Heaven?

Animals in Heaven?
This is a typical example of the con that is religion. Jack Van Impe is selling, among many other things, a video that explains how you will see your pets again in heaven.
We are told repeatedly that because animals don’t have “souls” they are not judged and so the heaven and hell thing is not an issue, but for $24.95 you can be reassured by Jack that, along with your old friends and family, Fido will be there also to play Frisbee and fetch your slippers.
If you believe in this rubbish you have a weak mind and are easily led.

Dr. Jack & Rexella Van Impe
For anyone who has ever lost a beloved pet, Dr. Jack and Rexella Van Impe have good news! You will see your furry or feathered friends again - in heaven! Explore this exciting truth taught by twelve of the greatest Christian theologians.
You will see and hear the exact spine-tingling statements from the pens of men like Dr. John Walvoord, Dr. Billy Graham, Dr. J. Vernon McGee, Dr. John Calvin and many others. This video study deals with animal intelligence, animal communication, and how animals literally teach humans some valuable lessons.

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian.

Skeeve at Atheists.com posted this link to the "Best Of" page at Craigslist and I found this post there.

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian.
Date: 2006-06-02, 1:10PM MST

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Atheist Walking.

This is a very intelligent guy walking down the street being bombarded with inane questions about God, Jesus, the Bible etc and why doesn’t he believe in it all.
His answers are superb, off the cuff rebuttals that shoot down every silly statement thrown his way.

You can also find it here at youtube.com if you would like to leave comments:

Stop the rightwing hatemongers.

This is a message from Media Matters

Recently, the major television networks have given a platform to conservative hate merchants like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Melanie Morgan. One of the country's largest syndicates, Universal Press Syndicate, distributes Coulter's column. Beck was recently hired by CNN Headline News. Morgan broadcasts from a radio station owned by Disney. And all three -- and countless others like them -- are regularly given guest spots on cable-news networks.

The fact that these right-wing pundits -- who have called for the execution of public officials and others -- are given a platform in the major media is unprecedented.
We, the undersigned, urge the media to stop allowing these hate merchants to spread their venom and abuse. America deserves to hear honest, reasoned debate, not rants from professional hatemongers.

Click here to add your name.

The only thing I have to add is that this should also be aimed at the left wing hate mongers who spread the same putrid venom at the other end of the spectrum.
But I just can’t think of any.

God Hates Shrimp!

Yet more stupid idiocy from the Bible.

Leviticus 11:9-12 (King James Version)

9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.

12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Who knew?

Very interesting post from the Atheists.com forum.

This is a very good post from LawnmowerMan at Atheists.com.
He writes:

It seems to me that even Christians will go to "hell". It goes to show how hypocritical christians are to begin with as there are 2 sets of Ten Commandments in the Bible itself.

First Set is as follows which Christians love to post everywhere and anywhere and everyone knows and "loves": Exodus 20:
1.Thou shalt have no other god Before me.
2. Thou shalt not liken untop thyself any graven images.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor thy father and mother.
6. Thou shalt not kill
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not lie.
10.Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife or his belongings.

Second Set is as follows and it's the ONLY set out of the two that is actually called "the ten commandments" by God himself, in the Bible. Exodus 34:
1. Thou shalt not worship any other God. For the Lord thy God is a jealous God.
2. Thou shalt make thee no molten Gods.
3. The Feast of Unleavened Bread thou shalt keep in the month when the ear is on the Corn.
4. The first born child of each father and of each mother are mine.
5. Thou shalt work for 6 days but on the seventh thou shalt rest.
6. Thou shalt observe the Feast of Weeks, even of the first fruits of the wheat harvest.
7. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread.
8. The fat of my feast shalt not remain all night until the morning.
9. The first of the fruits of thy ground thou shalt bring into the house of the Lord.
10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in it's mother's milk.

Now keep in mind that all christians everywhere when reciting and trying to force people to follow the Ten COmmandments it's always the first set which I listed. But the bible calls only the second set which i listed as "Ten Commandments." So it all goes in showing that not even Christians are following their own "divine scripture"

There are also other laws in which the Bible states that if not followed will lead to eternal damnation.

Such as: Leviticus 19:19 where you cannot wear garments made of two different types of material. Meaning no pants, no shirts no underwear, made 50% cotton, 50% polyester or whatever the case may be. Leviticus 11:6-8 Says you may never touch the skin of a dead pig as it makes you unclean, yet we have Christian football players.

Also a question I am grappling with for you Christians out there.... As sanctioned in Exodus 21:7 I would like to sell my daughter into slavery. In this day and age what do you think is a good price for her?

Superb!

Lay of the Land.

The cave-dwelling, hunchbacked English dwarf is one of Philly's finest.
by Steven Wells

Achtung! Achtung! The Storm Troopers of Gay Liberation have scored another victory in their satanically inspired jihad against the American family.

In Philadelphia in 2004, 11 self-described “Christians” were arrested for shouting through megaphones at partying same-sexers. They were later charged with hate crimes, but then released. Score one for the American family!

But now an attempt by the American Family Association of Pennsylvania to have this savage repression of Christian free speech commemorated by a historical plaque has been refused.

Oh no! What would Jesus say? Well, nothing, probably. Seeing as he had the square root of bugger all to say about homosexuality while alive, just as he said zilch about people who visit the barber or plant two crops in one field and all the other silly rubbish you find banned in Corinthians (the bit of the Bible Christian homophobes use to justify their peculiarly obsessive hatred of chaps who like shopping).

Manned journey to the Sun.

In an effort to challenge recent assertions that his administration is “Anti science” George Bush announced to the media today that he will be funding a manned space flight to explore the sun.

When a reporter pointed out that the heat of the Sun would destroy the space craft and all aboard Mr. Bush replied:

“Yes we have taken that into account and so they’re going at night”

Be honest.

Which sounds more plausible?

  1. Everything on this planet started as very simple cells that changed ever so slightly every year so that, after 4.5 Billion years had passed, we now have very intricate organisms that have highly developed and complex biology.

Or.

  1. A creature that lives out of sight simply went “poof” and there we were.

If you answered 1. Well done. You are obviously an intelligent and thoughtful person who, when faced with, what is admittedly an obvious question, doesn’t rely on others to tell you what to think. You should be commended for you ability to withstand generations of indoctrination and propaganda.

If you answered 2. Sorry. Wrong answer. You should be very ashamed of your pitiful lack of reality and you need to take a long hard look at yourself.
Don’t go out in public where you might pass your insane views on to others.
Don’t breed and raise innocent children to share your appalling beliefs.
In fact. Stay home in a dark room where you can’t do any harm to those of us who simply want to enjoy life.
